Laut Volkswagen-Chef Herbert Diess ist der Konzern auf der Suche nach externem Geld für seinen Plan, bis 2030 sechs Batteriezellfabriken in Europa zu errichten. Dabei ist offenbar auch ein Börsengang im Gespräch. Die Unterstützung sei nötig, da die Batteriezellkapazitäten nicht alleine von VW aufgebaut werden könnten.
Volkswagen hatte bei einem virtuellen Event im März seine Pläne zur Batteriezellfertigung den Medien vorgestellt. Neben den zahlreichen Entwicklungsstufen, die VW für die eigenen Batteriezellen in der Zukunft sieht, verkündet der Konzern auch, dass sechs Gigafactorys mit einem jährlichen Produktionsvolumen von insgesamt 240 GWh geplant seien. Um diese Ziele zu erreichen, hatte VW bereits seine Anteile am schwedischen Batterieunternehmen Northvolt erhöht und die Beteiligung von Northvolt am Joint Venture zur Batterieherstellung in Braunschweig komplett übernommen. Auf dieser Basis plant der Autobauer, zum Jahr 2023 mit der eigenen Batterieproduktion zu starten.
Nächster Standort in Spanien, Frankreich oder Portugal
Durch entsprechende Hilfe aus der Industrie sollen außer dem Werk in Salzgitter bis zum Jahr 2026 Fabriken in Spanien, Frankreich oder Portugal, bis 2027 in Polen, der Slowakei oder in der Tschechischen Republik und zuletzt zwei weitere Werke an bislang unbekannter Stelle entstehen. „Ich hoffe, dass wir innerhalb der nächsten Monate die weiteren Standorte und die nächsten Partnerschaften bekanntgeben können“, sagt Diess. „Auch einen Börsengang würde ich nicht ausschließen.“
