Laut einer aktuellen Mitteilung von BMW hat das Unternehmen nach Dingolfing an den Standorten Regensburg und Leipzig sein zweites und drittes Werk zur Produktion von Hochvoltbatterien und Batteriekomponenten in Betrieb genommen. Künftig sollen dort die Batteriesysteme für die vollelektrischen Fahrzeuge der fünften Generation entstehen.
Nachdem das Werk in Regensburg bereits im April mit der Lackierung von Batteriezellen für Hochvoltbatterien begonnen hatte, folgt nun in Leipzig der Produktionsbeginn von Batteriemodulen in Serienproduktion. In die beiden Standorte seien für den Aufbau der neuen Kapazitäten mehr als 250 Millionen Euro geflossen. Die ersten Hochvoltkomponenten sollen vor allem für die Produktion des BMW iX und BMW i4 genutzt werden, die beide demnächst auf dem Markt erscheinen sollen.
Insgesamt plant BMW, bis zum Jahr 2022 den Ausbau der Produktionskapazitäten von Antriebskomponenten für elektrifizierte Fahrzeuge an den vier Standorten Dingolfing, Leipzig, Regensburg und Steyr fertigzustellen. Die Gesamtinvestition für alle vier Standorte soll 790 Millionen Euro umfassen.
