In einer aktuellen Pressemitteilung kündigt VW die Erweiterung der Produktion von Batteriesystemen für die neueste E-Fahrzeug-Generation an. Nachdem vorab schon eine erste Ausbaustufe mit einer jährlichen Kapazität von 250.000 Batteriesystemen pro Jahr umgesetzt wurde, soll nun in einer gleichwertigen Stufe die jährliche Produktionsmarke von 500.000 Systemen erreicht werden.
Die produzierten Batteriesysteme sind Basis für VWs elektrische Antriebsplattform E-Antriebs-Baukastens (MEB), die der Konzern in den Modellen VW ID.3 und VW ID.4, aber auch bei zum Beispiel im Škoda Enyaq iV nutzt.
300 Millionen Euro hat VW nach eigenen Angaben in der Werksausbau investiert und stellt die Batteriesysteme größtenteils vollautomatisiert in einer Fertigungshalle von 40.000 m² her. Für die Produktion kommen, nach Aussage von VW, neueste Schweiß-, Klebe- und Abdichtungstechniken zum Einsatz. Von der Entwicklung am Standort sollen 800 VW-Mitarbeiter direkt profieren, deren Arbeitsplätze durch die Batterieproduktion gesichert seien.
Martin Schmuck, Werkleiter, äußert sich hierzu: „Mit der konsequenten Ausrichtung auf Elektro-Mobilität und einer klaren Fokussierung des Produktportfolios stellt sich der Standort Braunschweig wirtschaftlich zukunftssicher auf. Die Transformation des Standorts geht einher mit der Transformation der Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter, die auf die Arbeitsplätze im Batterieumfeld umfassend qualifiziert wurden. So machen wir Beschäftigung am Standort zukunftssicher.“
