Der Schweizer Batteriezellhersteller Leclanché hat eine neue Batteriezelle vorgestellt. Die neue 65 Ah beinhaltende Pouchzelle soll im Mark der elektrischen- und hybridelektrischen Nutzfahrzeuge Anwendung finden. Leclanché betont, dass die neue Batteriezelle die gestiegenen Anforderungen an Langlebigkeit, kurze Ladezeiten und hohe Reichweiten adressiert und besonders für Schwerlastmobilität ausgelegt sei.

Die Batteriezelle basiert hierbei auf einer in der Industrie gängigen Anwendung der Basiselemente Nickel, Mangan und Kobalt auf der Kathodenseite und Graphit auf der Anodenseite. Hiermit erreicht die Batteriezelle eine Leistung von 515 Wh/l, eine 10% höhere Energiedichte als bisher, bei einer Ladegeschwindigkeit von 80% in weniger als 30 min.

Leclanché plant die Batteriezelle ab sofort (Q1 2021) im Werk in Willstätt, Deutschland nahe der französischen Grenze, zu produzieren. Dafür soll unter anderem ein von Leclanché hervorgehobenes firmeneigenes Produktionsverfahren genutzt werden, bei dem die Elektroden wasserbasiert (in der Regel basiert die Herstellung von Kathoden Elektroden auf einem organischen Lösungsmittel) umgesetzt wird. Hierdurch soll zum einen die Umweltbelastung aber auch der CO2-Fußabdruck deutlich gesenkt werden.
