Fisker, dass erst unlängst hohe Absatzziele für seine Elektroautos und eine mögliche eigene Batteriefabrik in den USA oder Europa angekündigt hatte, gibt seine Ambitionen zur Festkörperbatterie auf. Mehrere Jahre Forschungsarbeit hätten, nach Aussage von Henrik Fisker, CEO, nicht das gewünschte Ergebnis gebracht und würden jetzt komplett gestoppt.
„Wir kamen am Ende zu dem Schluss, ich denke, es war wahrscheinlich Ende 2019, Anfang 20, – ich habe vergessen, wann genau –, dass Festkörperbatterien immer noch sehr, sehr weit weg sind, sie sind nicht um die Ecke“ so Henrik Fisker in einem aktuellen Interview mit der Newsplattform „The Verge“. Er sagt weiter: „Es ist eine Art Technologie, bei der man das Gefühl hat, zu 90 Prozent da zu sein – und man dann merkt, dass die letzten 10 Prozent viel schwieriger sind als die ersten 90“.
Fisker schätzt, dass eine Massenmarktfertigung von Festkörperbatterien noch ca. sieben Jahre entfernt sei. Sobald ein entsprechender Durchbruch bei der Forschung erzielt würde, kämen weitere drei Jahre hinzu, um eine Massenmarktfertigung zu realisieren und dann nochmal drei für die entsprechenden Haltbarkeitstests.
Ganz im Gegensatz dazu stehen aktuell die Ambitionen von QuantumScape. Das Unternehmen, dass unter anderen von VW mit $300 Millionen unterstützt wurde, plant, nach den Worten von CEO Jagdeep Singh, bereits zum Jahr 2023 100.000 Festkörperbatterien in Kalifornien zu produzieren.
