Piaggio, KTM, Honda and Yamaha planen, als Hersteller von Motorrädern und leichten Fahrzeugen, die Gründung eines Konsortiums für austauschbare Batterien. Ziel sei es, durch die Gründung eines Tauschsystems für Batterien bei kleinen Elektrovehikeln, die Verbreitung selbiger voranzutreiben. Das Konsortium soll im Mai beginnen und stünde alle Investoren offen.

Piaggio äußert sich dabei wie folgt zum Vorhaben: „Die Gründungsmitglieder des Konsortiums glauben, dass die Verfügbarkeit eines standardisierten, austauschbaren Batteriesystems sowohl den weit verbreiteten Einsatz von leichten Elektrofahrzeugen fördern als auch zu einem nachhaltigeren Lebenszyklusmanagement von Batterien im Transportsektor beitragen würde.“
