Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass die chinesische Automobilgesellschaft BAIC Group of China ihre Investition in die hauseigene Elektroautomarke Arcfox, als chinesische Premium Elektroautomarke, deutlich ausbauen möchte, wird mit einem erheblichen Anstieg der Marktanteile von SK Innovation in China gerechnet. SK Innovation beliefert alle Arcfox Fahrzeugmodelle mit Batterien.

SK Innovation hat sich schon 2013 mit einem Joint Venture früh als Batterielieferant bei BAIC platzieren können und profitiert nun von der Stärke der chinesischen Elektrofahrzeughersteller. Alle Batterien, die BAIC für die Marke Arcfox heute und zukünftig benötigt, sollen durch das seid dem bestehende Joint Venture in Changzhou, China produziert werden.

Dabei entwickelt sich Arcfox als Premiummarke immer weiter. Insbesondere das elektrische SUV „Alpha-T“ hatte zuletzt im Windschatten von Tesla auf den chinesischen Markt mit zahlreichen Vorbestellungen glänzen können und profitiert weiter durch eine Förderung der chinesischen Regierung.

SK Innovation punktet indes neben der Stärke in China vor allem auch mit technologischen Entwicklungen. Nach Aussage aktuellster Industrienachrichten steht SK Innovation inzwischen nahe davor NMC-Batterien mit hohen Nickelanteil zu kommerzialisieren. 90% Nickel, 5% Kobalt und 5% Mangan sollen künftige in der Kathodenchemie der SK Innovation NMC-Batterien ausmachen, was zum einen die Leistungsfähigkeit der Batteriezellen und zum anderen, wegen weniger Kobalteinsatz, die Ressourceneffizienz verbessern soll. Ab dem Jahr 2023 soll die Technologie erstmal im Ford F-150 genutzt werden.
