In einer aktuellen Pressemitteilung des Automobilkonzerns Daimler wurde am Mittwoch bekannt gegeben, dass die Daimler Tochter Mercedes-Benz und der chinesische Batteriezellhersteller CATL eine erweiterte Partnerschaft im Bereich der Batterietechnologie anstreben. Ziel sei es gemeinsam die „Industrialisierung von Lithium-Ionen-Batterien in Deutschland zu fördern“, zudem sollen alle kommenden Mercedes-Benz EQS Modelle mit CATL Batteriemodulen ausgerüstet werden.

Neben den rein technischen Aspekten, wie vor allem der Reichweite von über 700 km, betont Mercedes-Benz Cars COO auch die Nachhaltigkeitsziele, welche durch die Partnerschaft erreicht werden sollen: „Durch die Zusammenarbeit mit CATL beschleunigen wir unsere Transformation zur CO2-Neutralität.“ Dazu ergänzt CATL Geschäftsführer Zhou Jia: „Ich bin überzeugt, dass die Partnerschaft beiden Unternehmen neue Möglichkeiten für nachhaltige Geschäfte eröffnen wird und die Transformation unserer Branche beschleunigt.“

Mercedes-Benz selbst möchte, im Rahmen der ausgerufenen „Ambition 2039“, die gesamte PKW-Flotte CO2-Neutral anbieten. Heute schon verpflichtet das Unternehmen dazu seine Batteriepartner zu einer CO2-neutralen Produktion von Batteriesystemen. Daimler betont, dass sich alleine über den Produktionsprozess der Batterie 30% der gesamten CO2-Emissionen eines Batteriesystems einsparen lassen könnten. CATL und Daimler nutzen dabei unter anderem seit 2020 schon die Blockchain Technik, um Klima relevante Emissionen im Produktionsprozess der Batterien zu erkennen und künftig besser einsparen zu können.

Im Rahmen aller aktuellen Ambitionen heben die Unternehmen das Kernziel Ihrer Aktionen deutlich hervor. Daimler und CATL wollen in den nächsten Jahren eine Vorreiterrolle in Themengebiet der Batterietechnik übernehmen und nach Mercedes-Benz hauseigenem Credo das Beste Produkt liefern.
