Der japanische Autobauer Honda und der chinesischen Weltmarktführer für Batteriezellen CATL wollen künftig gemeinschaftlich Batterien für Elektrofahrzeuge entwickeln. Neben der Entwicklung sollen auch Recycling- und Second-Life-Ansätze sowie ein Vertriebsnetz gemeinschaftlich etabliert werden. Honda erwirbt dazu parallel insgesamt 1% der Unternehmensanteile von CATL.
Durch die Partnerschaft sollen künftige Honda Elektrofahrzeuge mit Batterien des Marktführers ausgestattet werden. Das erste Modell, dass mit den gemeinsam entwickelten Batteriespeichern unterwegs sein wird, soll bereits im Jahr 2022 auf dem chinesischen Markt vorgestellt werden. Ausgehend hiervon soll dann die Kooperation auf den globalen Fahrzeugmarkt ausgedehnt werden.
Um die dafür nötigen Entwicklungsziele sicher zu erreichen und insbesondere die Belieferung mit Batteriezellen von CATL sicherzustellen tätigt das Honda zusätzlich die Investition in CATL durch den Kauf von 1% der Anleihen des Unternehmens. Die Investition entspricht nach Aussagen von Insidern einer Summe von 2,5 Milliarden Euro. Mit der neuen Liquidität will CATL zu den bereits geplanten neuen Werken, zum Beispiel am Erfurter Kreuz in Deutschland, weitere Fertigungskapazitäten von 52 GWh Produktionsleistung pro Jahr aufbauen.
Durch die Partnerschaft fokussiert Honda weiter die eigene Elektrifizierung der Fahrzeugflotte, während CATL immer mehr in der aktuellen Dominanz als weltweit führender Batteriezellhersteller bestätigt wird.
