Batteriesysteme sind heute sowohl in mobilen als auch in stationären Anwendungen immer weiter auf dem Vormarsch. Auch die weitreichenden Auswirkungen der Corona-Krise konnten insbesondere die Entwicklung und Erforschung der Batterietechnik kaum ausbremsen.

Eine Förderung der Batterieentwicklung wird neben den industrieseitigen eigenen Aufwänden dabei heute maßgeblich auch durch öffentliche Entwicklungsgelder definiert. Die EU und Bundesregierung unterstützen die Erforschung der Batterietechnik mit Millioneninvestitionen in verschiedensten Projekten. Von besonderem Fokus sind vor allem die Projekte, welche die Fertigungsabläufe und Materialqualitäten verbessern sollen.

Das noch bis Ende 2021 laufende Projekt PErfektZELL ist eines dieser Projekte, unter Beteiligung des Singener Unternehmens Breyer, dem Batteriezellproduzent VARTA sowie dem Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Projektziel von PErfektZELL ist es, die Faltenbildung, welche bei der Batteriezellproduktion während des Kalandrierens entsteht (Verdichtung des Elektrolyts auf der Kontaktfolie aus Kupfer bzw. Aluminium) zu minimieren und somit die volumetrische Energieeffizienz der produzierten Batteriezellen zu steigern.

Hierfür arbeiten die Partner mit bildverarbeitenden Systemen zur Erkennung von Verzerrungen und Falten beim Kalandrieren. Durch die Auswertung der resultierenden Messgrößen wird ein Dehnungsunterschied unter verschiedenen Material- und Prozessparametern bestimmt, um so am Ende ein optimiertes Verständnis zum vorliegenden Verarbeitungsschritt zu entwickeln. Langfristig können so Vermeidungsmodelle aufgestellt werden, welches ein faltenfreies Kalandrieren ermöglichen.
