Das Unternehmen Webasto hat am Standort Schiering bei Regensburg mit der Produktion von Batterien für die Elektromobilität begonnen. Die ersten fertigen Systeme sind für den Einsatz im elektrifizierten Personennahverkehr vorgesehen. Die 11 Millionen Euro teure Produktionslinie soll ab dem kommenden Jahr darüber hinaus ein eigens entwickeltes Batteriesystem für Nutzfahrzeuge produzieren.

Der Einstieg in das Geschäft mit Batteriesystemen wurde vor drei Jahren zusätzlich zu dem bestehenden Kerngeschäft beschlossen. Das Know-How aus dem Bereich des Thermomanagements sowie aus dem Bereich der Fertigung komplexer Systeme und deren Integration in Fahrzeuge seien wichtige Faktoren für die erfolgreiche Umsetzung gewesen. Der Zugang zum chinesischen Werk soll durch die Entwicklung und Herstellung von Batteriesystemen am Standort Jiaxing gewährleistet werden.
