Sono Motors hat die Spezifikationen seines HV Batteriepacks veröffentlicht auf LinkedIn. So kommt das Pack mit insgesamt 192 prismatischen Zellen auf eine Nettokapazität von 35 kWh. Das Kühlsystem basiert aus einer 50:50 Mischung aus Wasser und Glykol. Entsprechend den Tests nach WLTP ergibt sich eine Reichweite zwischen 255 und 276 Kilometern.

Das Unternehmen geht zurück auf eine Idee der beiden Gründer, Jona und Laurin, im Oktober 2012. Im Jahr 2016 erfolgte dann die Gründung von Sono Motors als Trio mit Navina. Knapp ein Jahr später erfolgte die Vorstellung des Sion. Im Mai 2018 wurde bekannt gegeben, dass ElringKlinger der Zulieferer der Batterie für die Serienproduktion werde. Mittlerweile gibt es bereits 10.000 Reservierungen für den Sion, der zukünftig von NEVS in einem alten SAAB Werk in Schweden gebaut wird.
