Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) und die Toyota Motor Corporation haben die Basis für die gemeinsame Zusammenarbeit vorgestellt: Neben der längerfristigen Abnahme von Zellen wird eine Entwicklungspartnerschaft vereinbart. In diesem Rahmen sollen sowohl die Qualität und Leistungsfähigkeit von Zellen gesteigert und der Lebenszyklus optimiert werden bezüglich Recyclebarkeit.

CATL, gegründet 2011, ist bereits seit 2017 der weltgrößte Hersteller für automobile Anwendungen. Die größten Autobauer der Welt mit VW und Toyota sind neben weiteren Branchengrößen wie BMW längerfristige Lieferbeziehungen eingegangen.

Die angestrebte Kooperation war im Rahmen einer Präsentation vergangenen Monats bekannt geworden. Darüber hinaus werden weitere Kooperationen u.a. mit Panasonic, GS Yuasa und BYD angekündigt. Mit Primeearth EV besteht bereits eine Kooperation. Der ursprüngliche Bedarf sei von Toyota unterschätzt worden sein und soll durch die Partnerschaften rasch aufgefüllt werden. In diesem Zusammenhang definiert Toyota die Langlebigkeit bzw. Leistungsfähigkeit der Zelle als entscheidendes Kriterium zur Durchsetzung der BEVs.

Zusammen mit Subaru wurde eine Kooperation zur Entwicklung einer Plattform für BEVs für mittlere und große PKWs sowie SUVs angekündigt. Die bereits bestehende Zusammenarbeit solle intensiviert werden, um auf die wachsenden Marktanforderungen und -änderungen zu reagieren.
