Der chinesische Batteriehersteller SVOLT hat mit der offiziellen Positionierung seines künftigen Produktionsstandorts im Saarland begonnen. Ende 2020 hatte das Unternehmen erstmals seine entsprechenden Absichten für den Bau eines Werks verkündet. Seitdem ist geplant, in Überrherrn mit einer jährlichen Speicherkapazität von 24 Gigawattstunden Batteriezellen für den europäischen Markt herzustellen. Die Produktion soll 2023 beginnen.
Große Pläne für ein kleines Bundesland
In einem eigenen Werbemagazin und einem Online-Portal stellt SVOLT vor allem die Nachhaltigkeit seines zwei Milliarden Euro schweren Vorhabens heraus. Die Investition soll das Unternehmen nach CATL in Erfurt zum zweitengrößten chinesischen Batterieproduzenten in Deutschland machen. Um die saarländische Bevölkerung von den Unternehmensplänen zu überzeugen, verweist SVOLT in seiner aktuellen Medienkampagne auf die Vorteile der Elektromobilität und einen nachhaltigen Anspruch an die Batterieproduktion. In dem Werk soll künftig ein etwa 2.000 Mitarbeiterinnen und Mitarbeiter umfassendes Fachpersonal beschäftigt sein.
In vier Jahren weltweit 100 Gigawattstunden
Eigenen Angaben zufolge will SVOLT bis zum Jahr 2025 bereits eine weltweite Produktionsleistung von 100 Gigawattstunden erreichen. Zuletzt war bekannt geworden, dass das chinesische Unternehmen ab 2025 Zulieferer für Stellantis werden soll, ein potenzieller Großkunde für die Batteriezellen aus Überherrn.
