Die Joint Venture Partner General Motors und LG Chem, denken nach aktuellen Informationen darüber nach ein zweites Batteriewerk in den Vereinigten Staaten zu bauen. Der größte Automobilhersteller der USA bestätigt, dass aktuell die Umsetzung eines zweiten „state of the art“ Batteriezellwerkes geprüft würde.

Es wird erwartet, dass das Vorhaben nahe GMs künftigen Elektrofahrzeug Produktionsstandort Spring Hill in Tennessee entstehen könnte. Gespräch mit den offiziellen Stellen des Staates Tennessee würden aktuell bereits stattfinden. Die Kosten für den Neubau werden in der Größenordnung des ersten Batteriestandortes in Lordstown, Ohio, erwartet und belaufen sich aller Vorrausicht nach so auch auf einen Rahmen von ca. $2.3 Milliarden.
