In einer Pressmitteilung vom 15. Juni 2020 bestätigt der Chemie-Großkonzern BASF seinen Zeitplan bei der Herstellung von Batteriematerialien in Europa. Konkret hat BASF in Harjavalta, Finnland, das Fundament für seine Anlage zur Herstellung von Vorprodukten von Kathodenmaterialien, englisch cathode active material (CAM), gelegt und in Schwarzheide, Deutschland, die Baugenehmigung für eine weitere CAM-Anlage erhalten. Trotz der Covid-19 Pandemie sieht BASF damit die Inbetriebnahme des Investitionsprojekt bis zum Jahr 2022 nicht gefährdet.
BASF verfolgt mit seinen Anlagen das Ziel langfristig der weltweit führende Anbieter von Kathodenmaterialien zu werden und sich insbesondere durch hohe Energiedichten bei den chemischen Grundbestandteilen der Lithium-Ionen-Batterie auszuzeichnen. Bis zu 400.000 vollelektrische Fahrzeugebatterien sollen schon mit den ersten Produktionskapazitäten von BASF jährlich mit CAM-Material beliefert werden können.
Dr. Peter Schuhmacher, Präsident, Unternehmensbereich Catalysts bei BASF meint hierzu: „Wir sind entschlossen, innovative Hochleistungsprodukte mit einem reduzierten CO2-Fußabdruck entlang der Batteriewertschöpfungskette anzubieten. Durch die regionale Produktion kombiniert mit erneuerbaren Energiequellen sowie durch den Einsatz energieeffizienter und firmeneigener Verfahrenstechnologien können wir den CO2-Fußabdruck erheblich reduzieren: um etwa 30% im Vergleich zum herkömmlichen Industriestandard auf dem Markt.“
