Das Recycling- und Rohstoffunternehmen Umicore sowie das LG Chem haben eine langfristig angelegte Partnerschaft zur Lieferung von Kathodenmaterialien für die NMC-Technologie angekündigt. Die ab dem kommenden Jahr beginnende Partnerschaft umfasst Materialien im Umfang von rund 125.000 Tonnen. In der Partnerschaft ist die gegenseitige von patentierten Technologien vorgesehen. Darüber hinaus soll der Kreislauf der Batteriezellen geschlossen werden und finale Schritte optimiert werden.
In Anbetracht der jüngsten Worte von Steffen Cost, COO von Kia Deutschland, ist die Partnerschaft einerseits überfällig, andererseits aber auch dringend nötig: „Das Problem ist: Wir haben keine Batterien. So einfach und schlicht ist die Antwort.“
