Battery-News presents an updated map of lithium-ion battery recycling in Europe in cooperation with the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen University. The overview reflects the status as of February 2026 and was compiled by Natalia Soldan, Ali Bajaber, and Professor Heiner Heimes.
Recycling Projects Across 15 European Countries
The map shows planned and existing recycling projects, including their capacities and intended processes where specified. It distinguishes between mechanical, hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, and direct recycling, illustrating both the geographic distribution and the different technological approaches within Europe’s recycling infrastructure.
The overview covers projects across 15 European countries. Germany has the largest number of listed locations, with additional recycling activities in countries including the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Poland, and the Nordic countries.
The map is available for free download in high resolution. This overview does not claim to be exhaustive. The editorial team welcomes corrections and additions through the contact form.
