Battery Recycling Capacity in Europe Stronger Than Demand

Battery-News provides an overview of planned and already implemented projects in the field of lithium-ion battery recycling in Europe. The underlying data come from official announcements by the respective players and reliable sources from the battery production environment. If a company is missing or if there are general comments, the Battery-News editorial team will be happy to receive a message.

Plants waiting for capacity utilization

Despite the cancellation of large recycling projects and the current relatively low availability of used batteries, the planned recycling capacity in Europe continues to grow strongly. In the short term, several facilities are therefore likely to operate below their optimal capacity and thus be more dependent on production waste or imported materials. Meanwhile, significantly higher return volumes and improved planning thanks to the digital battery passport are expected from 2030 onwards. According to forecasts, this will lead to a strong increase in productivity in the European recycling industry at the beginning of the coming decade.
