US-based battery material manufacturer Group14 Technologies has started supplying its SCC55 anode material from a new production facility in South Korea. The plant is part of a joint venture established in 2021 with SK Inc. from South Korea.
2,000 tons of SCC55 per year
The facility in Sangju, South Korea, is based on Group14ʼs modular production technology and is expected to produce up to 2,000 tons of the material per year, equivalent to approximately ten gigawatt-hours of battery capacity. The first shipments of SCC55 material have already been delivered to battery manufacturers for material qualification. Group14 expects the first products using material from the new plant to enter the market in 2025.
Expansion of US production capacity
In addition to the new plant in South Korea, the company operates another production facility in Woodinville, USA, from which SCC55 material has been supplied since 2021. In 2025, the company plans to start up another plant in Moses Lake in the state of Washington, which will increase the companyʼs capacity by an additional 4,000 tons. The amount of SCC55 produced would then be enough for more than 30 gigawatt-hours of battery capacity.
