The future gigafactory is owned by Beijing Shidai Power Battery Co Ltd, a joint venture between CATL, BAIC, Xiaomi EV, and Beijing Energy International. CATL holds 51 percent of the enterprise, BAIC 39 percent, and the other two partners five percent each. No information were given on the completion date, the start of mass production or the planned production volume.

Batteries for customers in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei

According to the companies, production at the factory will be carried out on high-frequency, highly automated and highly flexible production lines from CATL. Once completed, the batteries will be supplied to automotive customers in Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei, including BAIC, Xiaomi, and Li Auto. CATL hopes this will attract other companies along the value chain to the Jing-Jin-Ji region, thereby strengthening the local energy industryʼs competitiveness and promoting local economic development.
