Ultium Cells, a joint venture between General Motors (GM) and LG Energy Solution, has started shipping its first battery cells to General Motorsʼ Spring Hill Assembly Plant. This step comes two and a half years after the start of construction of the plant in Tennessee.
Joint ventureʼs second production site
The plant will continue to produce battery cells for General Motorsʼ Ultium platform of electric vehicles. This includes the Cadillac Lyriq, which is assembled at GMʼs Spring Hill plant. With the addition of new production lines, deliveries to other General Motors plants are expected to increase in both volume and frequency. Spring Hill is Ultium Cellsʼ second battery cell manufacturing facility to achieve regular production, following the plant in Warren, Ohio, which began regular production in November 2022.
