Hyundai Motor Group is building a Future Mobility Battery Campus in Anseong, South Korea. Construction began in January 2025 and is scheduled for completion in late 2026. The official total investment amounts to the equivalent of approximately 818 million US dollars. The site will have a gross floor area of 1.2 million square feet and is intended for the research and development of battery cells and systems for electric vehicles as well as other mobility applications.
Materials research to system integration
According to the company, the facilityʼs purpose is to internalize key battery development competencies including cell design, process engineering, and integration into vehicle architectures. Additionally, the facility will use digital tools such as AI-supported simulations and automated test benches. Hyundai states that new technologies will be validated under realistic conditions with the help of durability and safety tests. Previously, the companyʼs battery development activities were spread across several locations, including its Namyang and Uiwang research centers. With the new campus, Hyundai aims to bring the entire development process under one roof – from materials research to system integration.
