Sunwoda Unveils New Solid-State Battery

Chinese battery manufacturer Sunwoda has presented a new generation of polymer-based solid-state batteries at the 2025 New Energy Battery Industry Development Conference. The “Xin Bixiao” cell reportedly has an energy density of 400 watt-hours per kilogram. The company claims the cell offers 1,200 charge cycles at an external pressure of less than one megapascal.

Pilot production line planned

Media reports indicate that Sunwoda plans to commission an 0.2-gigawatt-hour pilot production line for polymer-based solid-state cells by the end of 2025. According to previous company statements, mass production with an annual capacity of one gigawatt-hour is scheduled to begin in 2026. Alongside this, Sunwoda has also reportedly developed laboratory prototypes of lithium metal batteries capable of achieving an energy density of 520 watt-hours per kilogram. Sunwoda aims to develop laboratory prototypes with over 700 watt-hours per kilogram by 2027.
