French company SERMA Technologies has opened one of Europe’s most advanced battery testing centers on a 5,000-square-meter site south of Paris. At the facility, the SERMA Group subsidiary primarily conducts battery abuse tests.
Benchmark center for battery safety
The center located at Neuville-aux-Bois is one of the few facilities in Europe that can cover a broad spectrum of mechanical, electrical, thermal, and environmental abuse tests. According to the compny, it will be possible to perform abuse tests on battery packs with a capacity of up to 150 kilowatt-hours as well as on entire vehicles. The infrastructure allows all tests to be carried out indoors, so that there is no impact from the weather, and safe handling of all released gases and fumes is ensured. This site is funded by “Fonds vert – France Nation Verte” and the “France 2030” initiative.
Three SERMA testing centers in operation
The new facility complements 20,000 square meters of infrastructure already deployed by SERMA for testing green mobility technologies. In 2025, two additional test centers have already been inaugurated by the group: one covering 6,500 square meters near Bordeaux for electrical and environmental testing of cells and modules, and another one covering 3,500 square meters near Paris for electrical testing and abuse tests of the manufacturer’s battery modules and packs. SERMA claims the new site confirms the company’s commitment to providing long-term support to the French and European electric mobility industry.
