FAW-FinDreams Starts Blade Battery Production in China

FAW-FinDreams has started battery production in Changchun, China, with an initial planned annual capacity of 15 gigawatt-hours. The joint venture between BYD’s battery manufacturer subsidiary FinDreams and Chinese car manufacturer FAW intends to expand the annual volume to 45 gigawatt-hours in the future.

First production for FAW’s Hongqi brand

In Changchun, the capital of Jilin province in north-eastern China, FAW’s headquarters are located. The joint venture with FinDreams was founded in January 2022, with the construction of the battery factory beginning just one month later. The plant will produce blade batteries developed by BYD. The packs are intended to combine safety, range and durability thanks to a modular, highly integrated design. At full capacity, the plant will produce blade batteries for almost 600,000 vehicles per year. The first product batches are to be used in the new all-electric vehicles of the FAW Hongqi brand. The project’s total investment is estimated at the equivalent of around 2.4 billion euros.
