South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution will be supplying Vietnamese automobile company Kim Long Motor with cylindrical NMC battery cells for electric buses. Subsequently, Kim Long Motor will assemble these cells into complete battery systems. The company is establishing a dedicated facility for this purpose.
Production to begin in early 2026
The pack assembly site is set to be built on a 22-acre plot in the industrial area of Huế, Vietnam. Kim Long Motor states the investment volume as the equivalent to just under 46 million US dollars. Production is scheduled to begin in early 2026. The first phase of expansion will have an annual capacity of one gigawatt-hour. Further expansion is planned for the following years. According to the Vietnamese company, the production process will have an automation rate of up to 90 percent. The collaboration with LG aims to ensure a steady supply of batteries for Kim Long Motorʼs electric vehicles and achieve a localization rate exceeding 80 percent in the long term.
