Following the conclusion of insolvency proceedings, the CustomCells Group has found a new owner. A consortium of several family offices, including existing investors ABACON and SALVIA, will take over the company. According to the insolvency administrator, operations at the main site in Itzehoe will remain largely unchanged. Around 80 percent of local jobs will be retained. The agreement was signed shortly after insolvency proceedings began in July 2025.
Tübingen plant remains closed
However, the Tübingen plant, which has already been closed, will not be reopened. Research and development activities, as well as production of battery cells for existing customers, will continue at the Itzehoe technology cluster. The companyʼs customers come from sectors such as defense, aviation, motorsports, and mining. The takeoverʼs completion is expected to take place in the coming weeks. The insolvency administrator cites the default of the former major customer, Lilium, and strong competitive pressure in the battery cell industry as the main causes of CustomCellsʼ economic difficulties.
