New technologies are emerging more and more frequently in the battery world. Our current “Technology Radar” provides insights into the estimated time to market of various battery materials that are particularly important for electric vehicles. The insights are mostly based on the assessments of experts from the industry.
Usually a multi-year process
The analysis shows that numerous technologies still require a relatively long time to reach market maturity. According to experts, the process from the development of a new material to validation and integration into a commercially available vehicle typically takes several years. Meanwhile, it is striking that the time to market for different anode and cathode materials varies. While quite some cathode materials require longer periods of time, there are also some that are expected to be launched in the next twelve to 24 months.
Planning tool for battery manufacturers
This could be crucial for manufacturers looking for innovative solutions to keep their products competitive. With a variety of technologies examined, the “Technology Radar” aims to support battery companies in their strategic decisions and planned investments.
