Mullen Acquires Battery Manufacturing Equipment from Nikola

Southern California-based electric vehicle manufacturer Mullen Automotive has purchased additional battery manufacturing equipment from Nikola Corporation. Mullen intends to begin battery production at its Fullerton site in the second half of 2025. The expansion includes an additional high-volume production line for standard battery chemicals and an electrodynamic shaker system for internal testing of batteries and system components. Mullen had previously acquired production equipment from Nikola subsidiary Romeo Power for 3.5 million US dollars in September 2023.

Focus on US manufacturing and research

With the installation of the new equipment, the Fullerton facility will have two high-volume production lines for standard battery chemistries, one research and development line for standard batteries, and another for solid-state polymer batteries. A fully equipped battery testing laboratory will assist in the development of future projects. Mullen aims to reduce its dependence on imported battery components and produce its own battery packs for commercial vehicles. Applications in other industries are also planned.
