Automotive Cells Company (ACC) is in the process of preparing the financing for the second production line of its gigafactory in northern France. The investment expected to be around one billion euros is reportedly being secured by major shareholders Stellantis and Mercedes-Benz.
Second block to provide 13 gigawatt-hours
The plant currently operates one production unit with a capacity of 15 gigawatt-hours. The second unit, which is already under construction, will provide an additional 13 gigawatt-hours of production capacity. The facility is focused on the manufacture of NMC batteries. According to the company it is still an open question whether or not a third production unit will be built in France, which would bring the factoryʼs total capacity to 40 gigawatt-hours.
German and Italian plans put on hold
While the expansion in France is progressing, ACC has put other projects on hold for the time being. Thus, plans for two gigafactories in Germany and Italy have been suspended. The company claims it wants to reassess the underlying battery technology and will present roadmaps for both sites in the first half of 2025.
