Morrow Inaugurates Europeʼs First LFP Gigafactory

Norwegian start-up Morrow Batteries has opened Europeʼs first gigafactory for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries in Arendal, Norway. The facility will be capable of producing up to three million battery cells annually, equivalent to one gigawatt-hour. Test production has already begun.

Commercial production to start by end of 2024

Morrow Batteries is collaborating with customers to fine-tune production processes, aiming to reach serial production quality within the next few months. The company claims to start commercial production by the end of 2024. “This is a monumental day in Norwegian industrial history,” said CEO Lars Christian Bacher. “We have received unwavering support from the Arendal municipality, local and national governments, and our shareholders. Bacher claims that Europeʼs first LFP battery gigafactory will open up significant export potential. As the first of four factories planned in Arendal, “Morrow Cell Factory” will employ approximately 150 people on a shift schedule.
