Chinese battery materials manufacturer BTR New Material Group has started production at its new anode materials plant for lithium-ion batteries in Indonesia. According to the company, the plant will be the largest anode production facility outside of China when it reaches its final stage of expansion. The first phase of construction was completed in just ten months.
Expansion to double production capacity
The first construction phase, with an investment volume of 478 million US dollars, has an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons of anode material. A further investment of 299 million dollars is planned for the second phase, which is scheduled to begin at the end of 2024. While this is set to double the total capacity to 160,000 tons, the plant is expected to create 1,200 jobs upon completion of the second phase.
Anode materials for electric vehicles and more
The Indonesian plant will supply various anode materials for electric vehicles, appliance batteries and energy storage systems. BTR claims to have held the largest global market share for anode materials for the past 14 years, supplying battery manufacturers such as Panasonic, Samsung SDI, LGES, SKOn, CALT, and BYD worldwide.
