American Battery Factory Inc (ABF) has announced a partnership with Lead Intelligent Equipment (LEAD). Under the agreement, ABF will acquire automation technology and machinery from LEAD for its first gigafactory located in Tucson, Arizona.
LFP production to start by 2025
The factory, which broke ground in October 2023, is designed to have an annual capacity of up to 20 gigawatt-hours. It is expected to be completed in 2025 with an initial capacity of four gigawatt-hours. The LFP battery cells produced there are claimed to have a lifetime of up to 10,000 cycles or 30 years. In addition to the manufacturing facility, the Tucson site will include corporate headquarters and an innovation center for research and development.
LEAD to provide on-site support
The fully automated production line, developed by LEAD in close collaboration with ABF, will cover all key steps of the battery cell manufacturing process, reaching from mixing and coating to stacking and packaging. LEAD will also provide on-site support in the form of installation, commissioning, and training.
