US nanotechnology company CHASM Advanced Materials and chemical company Ingevity have announced a partnership. The collaboration aims at expanding the range of Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) offered to gigafactories in North America and Europe. Specifically, this involves conductive CNT additives for cathodes and anodes, which are intended to improve the performance of batteries.
Locally produced CNT additives instead of Asian imports
According to the companies, the majority of the world’s CNT production facilities are currently located in Asia. This presents a challenge for manufacturers seeking local production in North America and Europe. CHASM sees itself as a solution provider to this problem. The company has developed conductive CNT additives under the name “NTeC®-E” to serve as a drop-in replacement for standard CNTs produced in Asia. CHASM and its licensed manufacturing partners aim to become the most cost effective and largest local producer of CNTs in the North American and European markets.
Accelerating scale-up and commercialization
The collaboration between CHASM and Ingevity is designed to accelerate the scale-up and commercialization of NTeC®-E CNT additives. Their successful qualification in select gigafactories in North America and Europe is planned to occur over the next several years.
