US-based Albemarle Corporation has announced a binding agreement with BMW Group to supply battery-grade lithium for use in the automaker’s electric vehicles. The multi-year agreement will take effect in 2025 and is described by Albemarle as “one of the company’s largest global contracts.” However, no details were given on the volume or value of the contract.
Battery research also part of the agreement
Aside from Albemarle supplying lithium hydroxide to BMW, the collaboration also aims to develop technologies for safer and more energy-dense lithium-ion batteries. This is the second supply agreement between the two companies, but the first to include a joint research interest.
