US battery recycling and materials provider Cirba Solutions has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with EcoPro Co Ltd, a global manufacturer of cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries based in South Korea. As part of the collaboration, EcoPro will receive recycled material from Cirba Solutions for the production of cathode precursor material (PCAM) and cathode active material (CAM).
No information on supply volumes
According to the company, EcoPro considers Cirba Solutions’ experience as an important building block in the development of a closed supply chain for battery materials in North America. Meanwhile, the partners did not disclose the duration of the agreement or specific supply volumes.
IRA promoting partnerships
The collaboration comes on the heels of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which is designed to promote domestic energy production and the development of sources for clean energy. The companies note that the IRA acts as a catalyst for partnerships along the lithium-ion battery value chain.
