BMW has received its first solid-state silicon battery cells from Solid Power for its demonstration vehicle program. The project aims to realize a battery pack with higher energy content for extended range and reduced weight.
Continuous work on improvement of performance metrics
Solid Power President and CEO John Van Scoter emphasized the significance of the recent production and delivery of the first A-sample electric vehicle cells for BMW as a “critical milestone.” According to Van Scoter, the US company continuously works on improving performance metrics, such as energy density, pressure, life cycle, low-temperature operation, and safety. In the electrolyte area, the company is focusing on mass production, enabling Solid Power to increase production capacity and demonstrate large-scale production capability to potential partners.
