Samsung SDI has signed a supply contract for energy storage system (ESS) batteris in the United States. The agreement worth the equivalent to approximately one billion US dollars is realized through the Samsung SDI America susidiary with an energy company from the U.S. and covers a four-year period from 2026 to 2029. The batteries will be manufactured at the StarPlus Energy plant in Indiana, a joint venture between Samsung SDI and car manufacturer Stellantis.
NCA and LFP technologies
Initial deliveries will use nickel-cobalt-aluminum (NCA) batteries, followed later by lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells. The deal comes after an ESS agreement signed in December 2025 valued at more than 1.3 billion dollars with a U.S. energy infrastructure company. The contract reflects rising demand for energy storage in the United States, driven by the expansion of renewable energy and increasing electricity consumption from data centers and AI infrastructure.
