Japanese chemical company Asahi Kasei and Toyota Tsusho have agreed to collaborate on the supply of battery separators for the North American market. Their U.S. subsidiaries signed a contract granting Toyota Tsusho preferential rights to Asahi Kasei’s production capacity at its plant in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Delivering coated Hipore separators from mid-2027
Deliveries of coated Hipore separators are scheduled to begin in mid-2027. Through this collaboration, the companies aim to establish a robust North American battery supply chain. At the same time, the goal is to stabilize capacity and resource utilization on the manufacturing side. The Charlotte separator plant had been announced in 2023 and is currently under construction. Specific details regarding the order volume or the term of the contract have not yet been disclosed.
