UKBIC Opens Modern Controlled Dry Rooms

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) has opened a new facility featuring climate-controlled clean rooms. The “Clean and Dry Zone” (CDZ) consists of five independently usable areas spanning 800 square meters. Its rooms, which can be rented individually, are intended for cell developers, equipment manufacturers, and other industry players to use for research and development as well as testing.

Rooms ranging from 83 to 245 square meters

All areas meet cleanroom class ISO 7 requirements and have an air filter system for particle reduction as well as the ability to reach a dew point of -40°C. Room sizes range from 83 to 245 square meters, with one room featuring an increased ceiling height of up to five meters. They are to be used via electronic access controls to ensure the protection of intellectual property.

Promoting national technology development

UKBIC is part of the Faraday Battery Challenge, a UK government program funded with 657 millions pound sterling, equivalent to approximately 891 US dollars. The program aims to support scientific developments and the industrial scaling of battery technologies in the United Kingdom. According to the operator, the new CDZ will be adaptable for use in research, testing, and manufacturing processes.
