Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech has reportedly completed construction of its first pilot production line for the GEMSTONE solid-state battery. The plant has an annual capacity of 0.2 gigawatt-hours and is currently operating at 90 percent yield. The cells are already being tested in vehicles on the road.
150 percent more capacity
According to Gotion, the 2025 version of the cell has a 150 percent higher capacity than that of the previous yearʼs model. Additionally, the ionic conductivity of the sulfide electrolyte has improved by 60 percent, and the pre-compression force in the cell stack has been reduced by 90 percent. The company claims that safety tests such as puncture, crush, and overcharge tests have been passed. A timetable for mass production has not yet been published. Earlier statements from company sources indicate that small-series production is not planned before 2027.
