US-based Octillion Power Systems has opened a new battery manufacturing facility in Reno, Nevada. The factory covers approximately 40,000 square feet and is expected to have an annual capacity of up to one gigawatt-hour. According to Octillion, the facility will also serve as a model for potential additional factories in North America. The facility will serve multiple markets, including automotive, commercial, marinem and stationary energy storage.
Rapid start as a model for partnerships
According to the company, production will use a combination of automated processes, robotics, and manual assembly. Production begins just eight months after the lease was signed. The Reno facility will also serve as a model for partners looking to build their own manufacturing capabilities with Octillion whicjh claims that the new factory is part of a long-term strategy to establish itself as a major supplier of battery systems in the United States. Octillion operates seven other manufacturing facilities worldwide with an estimated total annual capacity of 25 gigawatt-hours.
