United States Support Forge Battery Gigafactory Expansion

US-based company Forge Battery has successfully completed negotiations with the US Department of Energy for a 100-million-dollar grant. The funding will support the expansion of the companyʼs existing gigafactory in North Carolina to a production capacity of three gigawatt-hours per year.

Agreement under Biden administration

The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Act and will be administered by the Departmentʼs Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains. According to Forge Battery, the agreement was finalized on 14 January, 2025 under the Biden administration. In addition to the government funding, the company plans to invest 140 million dollars to expand its production capacity.

Expansion and production plans

Furthermore, Forge Battery has commissioned an additional production line in Colorado. According to the company, it will be used to test production and provide cell samples to customers and partners. Forge Battery claims it will initially produce 21700 cells in Colorado before moving production to its North Carolina site.
