OCSiAl Opens Carbon Nanotube Production in Serbia

Luxembourg-based OCSiAl has opened a new production facility for single wall carbon nanotubes in Serbia. With an annual production capacity of 3,000 tons of single wall carbon nanotube dispersion, the plant will support ProLogium’s Gigafactory project in Dunkirk, France, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026 and start mass production of batteries in early 2027.

Use in lithium ceramic batteries

The collaboration with OCSiAl enables ProLogium to improve its lithium ceramic batteries by integrating carbon nanotubes into the electrodes to further increase efficiency and performance. The nanotubes create permanent connections between the particles of the electrodes, reducing resistance and increasing the cellsʼ energy density, making the batteries more cost-effective while meeting stricter safety and performance requirements. OCSiAl plans to open another plant in Luxembourg by 2028 to strengthen its collaboration with ProLogium and support the growth of its Dunkirk gigafactory as well as its Paris-Saclay research center.
