Amplify Begins Mississippi Battery Plant Construction

Amplify Cell Technologies, a joint venture between Cumminsʼ Accelera division, Daimler Truck, and PACCAR, has broken ground on its new battery manufacturing facility in Marshall County, Mississippi. The plant is being built on a 500-acre site and will have an annual production capacity of 21 gigawatt-hours of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. Production is expected to begin in 2027 and is intended to create more than 2,000 jobs in the United States.

Localizing the Battery Supply Chain

The goal of the joint venture is to localize the battery supply chain in the US. According to the company, this is intended to improve robustness and responsiveness to the needs of the growing electric commercial vehicle market in North America. Accelera, Daimler Trucks, and PACCAR have committed to a total investment of two to three billion US dollars. The three companies each own a 30-percent stake in Amplify Cell Technologies. EVE Energy contributes its expertise in the production of LFP battery cells as a technology partner with a ten-percent share.
