Less than two years after announcing expansion plans for Europe, U.S.-based battery recycling specialist Redwood Materials has announced the acquisition of Redux Recycling and thus added Germany as a location. The facility, which is located in Bremerhaven on the German North Sea coast, is designed to have an annual processing capacity of 10,000 tons.
Recovery rate of more than 95 percent
The Redux facility is equipped to recycle electric vehicle and e-bike batteries, stationary storage systems, and consumer devices such as cell phones, laptops, and power drills. The factory is located close to one of the largest and most important ports for the import of vehicles, enabling Redwood to transport, recycle, and process batteries from all over Europe. Redux’s proprietary technology enables the recovery of valuable materials from batteries, including cobalt, lithium, nickel, and manganese, at a rate of more than 95 percent. Redwood is owned by Tesla co-founder JB Straubel.
