Stellantis Opens Battery Center in Turin

Automaker Stellantis has opened its first battery technology center at its Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy. The 40-million-euro facility will develop and test battery packs, modules, and cells as well as software for upcoming electric vehicles.

One of the largest centers of its kind in Europe

The tasks of the more than 100 employees of the center shall include climatic stress testing, lifetime testing, developing and calibrating software for battery management systems, and monitoring the degradation of batteries and cells for in-depth analysis and benchmarking. To perform these tests accurately, the 8,000-square-foot center has a total of 32 climate-controlled test cells. Of these, eight are specifically designed for battery cell testing, while the remaining 24 are large enough to accommodate full battery packs. According to Stellantis, this makes the center one of the largest of its kind in Europe and the largest battery technology center in Italy.
