The European Commission plans to introduce low-carbon and “Made in Europe” requirements through the Industrial Accelerator Act. The rules would apply to sectors such as steel, aluminum, and cement, as well as clean technologies such as wind turbines and electric vehicles.
Increasing production’s share
The proposal aims to increase manufacturing’s share of the EU economy to 20 percent by 2035, up from today’s 14 percent. The legislation still requires approval from the European Parliament and EU member states.
