The Volta Foundation has published its highly anticipated Battery Report for the year of 2025. Now in its sixth annual edition, the report is considered one of the most comprehensive and widely referenced industry analyses in the global battery sector. The open-access document offers industry stakeholders unique insights into technologies, markets, and trends shaping the future of batteries.
“Shaping the coming decades”
The 2025 edition is the result of a collaborative effort between more than 15 global advisors, 30 expert authors, and 120 contributors from industry, academia, research, finance, and policy. This makes the report a multifaceted source of information for professionals along the entire value chain. “Decisions being made today around technology, supply chains, policy, and talent will shape the next several decades, and this Battery Report provides a shared, factual baseline at a moment when clarity matters more than ever,” says Michael Liu, Director of Research & Insights at Volta Foundation, in a statement released by GlobeNewswire.
Seven areas from industry to politics
The 2025 Battery Report is divided into seven key areas, “Industry,” “China,” “Academia,” “Talent,” “Policy,” “Community,” and “Predicitions”, providing a comprehensive overview of the global battery ecosystem. The report highlights key trends, such as the global growth of battery energy storage systems (BESS) by more than 100 gigawatts – driven by continuous cost declines and evolving long-term storage contracts.
Battery-News contributions
In collaboration with its research partners PEM Motion and the Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components (PEM) of RWTH Aachen University, the Battery-News team contributed data synthesis, mapping resources, and analytical insights which were partially referenced in the Volta report. This includes structured information from large databases, which has been incorporated in the form of maps in the “Talents” section, for example. This section focuses on battery training and workforce development in North America and Europe.
